More than a bed near the waves - a slow, art-directed way of living on Sri Lanka's east coast, built around shared dinners, jungle yoga and quiet mornings.

Facilities & community
A house designed forslow, shared living

My Soul is an eleven-room house, not a resort. Every space - the table, the deck, the outdoor showers, the shaded corners - exists to make connection effortless and the days feel unhurried.

The communal long table

Dinner at My Soul is a ritual, not a service. Every evening at seven, one long teak table is set beneath the palms - rice and curry cooked that afternoon, candlelight, and whoever arrived that morning sitting next to whoever is leaving tomorrow. Solo travellers arrive alone and eat with twelve new friends. This nightly dinner is the heartbeat of the hostel and the reason most guests stay longer than they planned.

Sunrise practice

The jungle yoga deck

Before the heat, before the surf, the day begins on a raised wooden deck wrapped in green. Morning practice here is slow and unforced - breath, movement and birdsong as the light comes up through the canopy. Mats are ready, the deck is shaded by ten, and the ocean is close enough to hear between poses.

Artisan breakfast culture

Mornings stretch. Hoppers, buffalo curd, fresh fruit and proper coffee appear slowly and disappear the same way - breakfast at My Soul is a two-hour affair that sets the pace for the whole day.

Outdoor showers

Rain showers open to the sky, screened by greenery. After a salt-crusted session at the point, there is no better way back to yourself.

Art-directed living spaces

Teak, linen, clay and cane. Every corner of the house is composed to be lived in slowly - reading chairs in the shade, hammocks in the courtyard, silence when you need it.

The Arugam Bay rhythm
Sunrise to starlight,a home base for the world

Arugam Bay runs on a different clock. First light belongs to the surfers at Main Point; late morning to breakfast and hammocks; the fierce midday hours to shade, books and naps. Evening belongs to everyone at once - the beach, the lagoon, and one long table.

My Soul sits at the centre of that rhythm. Guests arrive from Tel Aviv, Paris, Berlin, Moscow and Melbourne and settle into the same easy routine within a day. The hostel is deliberately small so that nobody stays a stranger: names are learned at dinner, plans are made over coffee, and lifts to Whisky Point are shared.

It is, in the truest sense, a home base - a place to return to after the surf, the safari and the sea, where the light is soft and someone has kept you a seat.
